The hard-throwing righthander went the distance for the second straight game to lower his ERA to 2.54. He has allowed a total of four runs in his last five starts.
Brennan Boesch homered and had three hits and Alex Avila added two hits and two RBIs as Detroit snapped the Rockies' four-game winning streak. Miguel Cabrera also went deep for the Tigers.
Colorado's lone run off Verlander came on Ty Wigginton's solo homer in the fifth, his seventh of the season.
