Giants 4, Tigers 3
Pablo Sandoval broke a tie in the top of the ninth inning with his second RBI double of the game and the visiting San Francisco Giants held on to defeat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 Friday night.
Ninth-place batter Chris Stewart led off the ninth with a double and moved to third on Aaron Rowand’s third hit of the game. Sandoval then drilled a pitch off Jose Valverde (2-3) to left-center for a ground-rule double. The Giants added two runs on bases-loaded walks for a 4-1 lead.
Jeremy Affeldt got the final two outs by inducing Brennan Boesch's line-drive double play to shortstop Brandon Crawford with the bases loaded for his third save.
Magglio Ordonez (2-for-4) tied the game 1-1 in the eighth for the Tigers with a two-out, RBI single off Giants closer Brian Wilson (6-1), who blew his second straight save and fourth of the season, but picked up the win.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner allowed five hits and one run, striking out nine. He threw a career-high 124 pitches over 7 1/3 innings.
Sandoval extended his hit streak to 12 games with his two-out, RBI double in the fifth for the Giants, who have won eight of 10.
San Francisco left fielder Pat Burrell was a late scratch from the lineup due to a sore right foot.
