Tigers 8, Twins 2

Jhonny Peralta homered among three hits and had four RBIs, and Max Scherzer turned in seven strong innings as the visiting Detroit Tigers took down the Minnesota Twins 8-2 on Friday night.

Ryan Raburn added a solo homer and Carlos Guillen singled in a pair of runs for the Tigers, who moved 1½ games ahead of the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central.

The Twins dropped seven games back.

Peralta hit his 16th homer - a solo blast - in the second, added a two-run single in the third and tacked on an RBI double in the fifth. His double chased Minnesota starter Brian Duensing (7-8), who was charged with seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Scherzer (11-5) held the Twins to one run on four hits and struck out four. The righthander has allowed four runs in 21 2/3 innings over his last three turns.

Minnesota's Joe Mauer went 0-for-4 to snap a seven-game hitting streak.
