Angels 5, Tigers 1
Dan Haren outdueled top prospect Jacob Turner in his major league debut as the Los Angeles Angels took down the host Detroit Tigers, 5-1, on Saturday.
Erick Aybar went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases and Mark Trumbo doubled in a run for the Angels, who have won eight of their last 11 to remain two games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West
Haren (11-6) allowed six hits in his third complete game of the season . In two starts against Detroit in 2011, the righthander has allowed a total of one run on eight hits in 18 innings.
Turner (0-1), the Tigers’ first-round pick in 2009, yielded just three hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six. He left with the scored tied, 1-1, but Phil Coke allowed an inherited runner to score, saddling the 20-year old Turner with the loss.
Coke hit Peter Bourjos with a pitch to force in the go-ahead run in the sixth. Trumbo, who sparked a two-run rally in the eighth, has driven in seven runs through the first three games of the series.
