Justin Verlander threw a complete-game, allowing only one run, and became the first pitcher this season to win 18 games in Detroit’s 7-1 victory over Minnesota at Comerica Park.
Verlander (18-5) won his sixth consecutive start and posted his fifth complete game of the season. He allowed seven hits and struck out eight.
Minnesota loser Nick Blackburn (7-10), who has not won since July 8, gave up 11 hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Detroit had 14 hits, with each player in the starting lineup getting at least one.
Ramon Santiago had the only home run for the American League Central-leading Tigers, who lead Cleveland by three games.
