Tigers 6, Twins 4
Delmon Young got to his former team with a go-ahead RBI in the seventh and Justin Verlander struggled to his 20th win as the Detroit Tigers topped the host Minnesota Twins 6-4 on Saturday.
Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila each hit solo homers for the Tigers, who have won eight of nine and maintained their 6 1/2-game lead over Cleveland in the American League Central.
The Twins have lost seven straight.
Young, who drove in three runs in his return to Target Field on Friday, snapped a 4-4 deadlock in the seventh when his single off Carl Pavano (6-11) chased in Wilson Betemit from second. Young is 5-for-9 through the first two games of the series.
Verlander (20-5), who has become a trendy candidate for both the Cy Young and AL MVP awards with his recent dominance, won his eighth straight start to become the first pitcher in the majors to reach 20 victories.
The righthander had his string of five straight quality starts come to an end, however, as he yielded four runs in six-plus innings.
Jose Valverde worked the ninth for his 39th save.
