Brewers 1, Braves 0
Yovani Gallardo used his arm and his bat to help Milwaukee beat Atlanta 1-0 on Tuesday and give the Brewers their first win of the season.
Gallardo (1-0) allowed only two hits and two walks in recording the complete game at Miller Park. He also scored the game’s only run after leading off the third inning with a bloop single, then crossed the plate on Ryan Braun’s hard-hit grounder that glanced off the glove of third baseman Chipper Jones into shallow left field.
Gallardo allowed only two runs over six innings in the season opener against the Cincinnati Reds and left with a lead that the Brewers bullpen was unable to hold. The right-hander struck out two against the Braves and improved his record against Atlanta to 3-0 with his third career shutout and fourth complete game.
Atlanta’s Derek Lowe (1-1) took the loss, which snapped his personal seven-game regular-season winning streak. He allowed five hits, three walks and struck out seven in six innings.
