Brewers 5, Braves 4
First baseman Prince Fielder had three hits and drove in his first three runs of the season as the host Milwaukee Brewers hung on to defeat the Atlanta Braves 5-4 on Wednesday.
Fielder singled in Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez in the first inning, and knocked home Weeks in the fourth. Fielder also scored a run in the fourth inning on a close play, although replays showed Atlanta catcher Brian McCann had the ball in time and tagged Fielder before he reached the plate.
Marcus Estrada (1-0) was recalled from the minor leagues as an emergency starter for Milwaukee. He gave up eight hits and struck out four in six innings, and left after he allowed a three-run homer to Jason Heyward, his second of the season.
Zach Braddock, Kameron Loe and John Axford each worked an inning of scoreless relief. Axford walked Heyward to lead off the ninth, but retired the next three batters to earn his first save of the season.
Atlanta starter Mike Minor (0-1) was pulled with one out in the fifth inning. He allowed seven hits, four walks and five runs. The Braves had staked him to a 1-0 lead in the first when Chipper Jones doubled home Martin Prado, who led off the game with a single.
