Braves 4, Mets 2
Derek Lowe threw six strong innings and the host Atlanta Braves bashed four solo
homers in beating the New York Mets 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.
Alex Gonzalez cracked two of the long balls, Chipper Jones and
Freddie Freeman one each. It was Jones’ 45th career homer against the
Mets and Gonzalez's ninth multi-homer game of his career.
Lowe (2-2) allowed two runs on five hits, lowering his ERA to 1.82.
Craig Kimbrel worked around a ninth-inning hit for his fourth save.
New York starter D.J. Carrasco (0-1), normally a long reliever, allowed three of the homers before leaving in the fourth. He yielded three runs and three walks in 3 2/3 innings.
Willie Harris had an RBI double for the Mets, who have lost six straight.
