Mets 3, Braves 2
Spot starter Dillon Gee pitched into the sixth inning and allowed just one run, and Josh Thole drove in a pair of runs, as the New York Mets snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday at Turner Field.
Gee was called up to make the start after New York put righthander Chris Young on the disabled list, and he didn't disappoint. Gee allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out four.
The Mets staked Gee (1-0) to an early lead with two runs in the first off Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson, scoring on RBI singles by Thole and Ike Davis. The Braves cut the lead in half on Freddie Freeman's RBI single in the second, but they managed nothing more until the eighth.
Thole added another run-scoring single in the fifth, and the insurance run proved valuable after Jason Heyward's solo home run in the eighth against Jason Isringhausen. The homer was Heyward's fourth of the season.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his second save, stranding the tying run at third when he struck out pinch hitter Brooks Conrad.
Hanson (1-3) allowed three runs on five hits over five innings; he walked two and struck out nine.
