Braves 2, Brewers 1
Martin Prado’s solo homer in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday to complete a four-game sweep.
Rookie Brandon Beachy pitched six strong innings and Eric Hinske added a solo blast for the Braves, who have won five straight overall and 10 of their last 13.
Shaun Marcum pitched the first seven innings for the Brewers and allowed just one run and five hits while striking out eight. But after 98 pitches, Milwaukee elected to turn the ball over to righthander Kameron Loe (2-3), who promptly yielded Prado’s third homer on a 3-1 pitch leading off the eighth.
Beachy matched Marcum through six innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits. The 24-year-old struck out nine on Thursday and has surrendered two runs or less in each of his last four outings.
Jonny Venters (2-0) struck out two in a scoreless frame to pick up the win and Craig Kimbrel worked the ninth for his seventh save for Atlanta.
Milwaukee, which has dropped six straight, pushed its lone run across on Jonathan Lucroy’s sacrifice fly in the fifth.
