Reds 5, Braves 1
Making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, Mike Leake pitched six strong innings to propel the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday at Turner Field.
Leake (4-2) gave up seven hits and walked three, but allowed only one run in his first start for the Reds since May 3. He got support from four relievers - including Nick Masset, who recorded one of the biggest outs of the game in the eighth when he retired Alex Gonzalez on a grounder with the bases loaded.
Francisco Cordero worked the ninth in a non-save situation.
The Reds collected single runs in three separate innings. Fred Lewis doubled in Scott Rolen in the second, then scored on Paul Janish's bunt in the fourth. Jay Bruce singled home Brandon Phillips in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Cincinnati put the game out of reach in the ninth when Ramon Hernandez belted a two-run homer off Atlanta closer Craig Kimbrel.
The Reds chased Braves starter Tommy Hanson (5-4) in the fifth inning. He allowed three runs on four hits and walked three.
