Braves 2, Reds 1
Martin Prado belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Jair Jurrjens tossed eight strong innings as the Atlanta Braves recorded a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday night at Turner Field.
Prado's homer was his seventh of the season – and first since May 14 – as Atlanta secured its fifth win in seven games.
The 27-year-old Venezuelan also came up big in the field. Prado maintained the Braves' one-run lead when he threw out Paul Janish in the eighth inning as he attempted to score on Brandon Phillips' shallow single to left.
Jurrjens (7-1) worked around Jay Bruce's fifth homer in eight games to record his first win in four career decisions against the Reds. The 25-year-old Jurrjens permitted one run on six hits while striking out five.
Braves closer Craig Kimbrel allowed a leadoff walk to Joey Votto and a single to Fred Lewis in the ninth before notching his 15th save of the season.
Johnny Cueto (2-2) yielded just two runs on five hits in eight strong innings for the Reds, who fell for the 10th time in 12 games.
