Braves 6, Astros 3 (10)

Brian McCann hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning to carry Atlanta to its fifth straight win, a 6-3 victory Saturday over Houston at Minute Maid Park.

McCann’s eighth home run came with no outs against losing pitcher Brandon Lyon (3-3) and landed deep in the right field seats. Scott Linebrink (1-1) pitched one inning of scoreless relief and Craig Kimbrel, used in a non-save situation, allowed one run in the 10th.

The Astros pieced together three consecutive extra base hits in the first inning, one an RBI double by Hunter Pence that extended his hitting streak to 22 games, and took a quick 2-0 lead.

The Braves battled back to tie the score on a double by Chipper Jones in the third inning and a solo homer by Eric Hinske, his eighth, in the fourth.

The two rookie starting pitchers both performed well but neither figured in the decision. Atlanta’s Mike Minor allowed two runs on four hits, three of those in the first inning, in six innings. Houston’s Jordan Lyles, at 19 the youngest active player in the major leagues, allowed eight hits, two runs and struck out five in 6 1/3 innings.
