Braves 4, Astros 1
Tommy Hanson struck out a career-high 14 batters in seven innings as the Atlanta Braves ran their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 victory over the host Houston Astros on Sunday.
Dan Uggla and Brian McCann belted two-run homers for the Braves, who have gone deep eight times in the first three games of the series to send Houston to its fourth consecutive loss.
Hanson (8-4) permitted only three hits and two walks in seven innings and improved to 3-0 lifetime against Houston with his sixth career double-digit strikeout game. He finished with a flourish by fanning the side in the seventh.
Astros starter Brett Myers (2-6) surrendered both home runs and was charged with four runs on five hits in seven innings. He struck out six and walked one in falling to 4-11 in his career vs. Atlanta.
Houston’s Hunter Pence, who is riding a 22-game hitting streak, was held out of the game. He was dealing with back spasms earlier in the week.
Carlos Lee drove in the Astros’ only run with a sixth-inning double.
