Braves 9, Mets 8 (10)
D.J. Carrasco balked home the winning run in the 10th inning as the Atlanta Braves snapped their three-game losing streak by rallying for a 9-8 win over the New York Mets on Thursday at Turner Field.
The winning rally came with two outs and started with a double by Diory Hernandez. He took third on Jordan Schafer’s infield single and scored when Carrasco (0-2) balked, a violation that was immediately noticed by batter Jason Heyward, who began waving his hands and pointing toward the mound.
Scott Linebrink (3-1) picked up the victory after tossing a scoreless 10th inning.
Chipper Jones hit his seventh homer and had five RBIs, but left the game in the ninth with a right groin strain.
The game went to extra innings after Atlanta’s Brooks Conrad belted a two-run homer off closer Francisco Rodriguez with one out in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 8-8.
The Mets had earlier erased a four-run deficit, with the big blow being a three-run homer by Scott Hairston against reliever Scott Proctor.
New York then took the lead by scoring a pair of runs off Jonny Venters, who had not allowed a run in 19 appearances dating back to May 8.
