Braves 6, Reds 4
Dan Uggla hit his first career pinch-hit home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Atlanta Braves a 6-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
Uggla worked the count full against Reds reliever Nick Masset (1-4) before he launched an outside fastball deep into the right-center field stands. It was Uggla’s 18th home run and extended his hitting streak to a career-best 13 games.
Jonny Venters (5-1) retired the side in order in the eighth and Craig Kimbrel threw a perfect ninth to set a club rookie record with his 31st save.
The teams combined for seven homers on a hot, muggy night, and each hit back-to-back home runs. Jason Heyward and Brian McCann connected in the fourth, while Cincinnati’s Fred Lewis and Drew Stubbs did it in the sixth.
Atlanta's Martin Prado and Cincinati's Zack Cozart added solo shots.
Braves starter Jair Jurrjens allowed four runs, four hits and struck out nine in six innings.
