Braves 6, Mets 5
Chipper Jones singled in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning and Atlanta hung on to beat New York 6-5 Sunday at Citi Field.
Jones pulled an outside pitch from reliever Bobby Parnell (3-4) past second baseman Justin Turner to score Alex Gonzalez with the tie-breaking run.
Jonny Venters (6-1) was the winning pitcher and Craig Kimbrel earned his 34th save.
Atlanta seemed to have the game in hand after Alex Gonzalez and rookie Jose Constanza hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning to give the Braves a 5-2 lead. The Mets battled back to tie the game with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Atlanta’s Dan Uggla extended his hitting streak to 28 games with a single in the eighth inning. Freddie Freeman’s 20-game streak ended when he went 0-for-4.
The Mets lost two players with injuries. Shortstop Jose Reyes left the game in the second inning with a hamstring issue and second baseman Daniel Murphy was helped off the field in the seventh after hurtling his knee in a collision with a baserunner.
