Cubs 3, Braves 2
Randy Wells pitched 6 2/3 strong innings and Alfonso Soriano homered to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 victory over visiting Atlanta on Wednesday to snap the Braves' six-game winning streak.
Wells (5-4) yielded two hits, two walks and struck out six to keep the Braves off the board until the last batter he faced - Chipper Jones - broke up the shutout bid with a two-out solo homer in the seventh.
Alex Gonzalez homered against Kerry Wood in the eighth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Carlos Marmol was able to close the door in the ninth for his 30th save despite hitting leadoff batter Dan Uggla.
The Cubs grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second against Derek Lowe (8-12) on a two-run homer by Soriano and an RBI groundout by Wells.
Lowe gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits in seven innings. He struck out six and walked four.
