Mets 7, Braves 5
Ruben Tejada’s bloop single drove home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the visiting New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 7-5 in the rubber match of a three-game series Sunday.
The loss shrank the Braves' wild-card lead over San Francisco, a winner over Colorado, to four games.
The Mets struck twice against Atlanta reliever Jonny Venters (6-2), who walked Ronny Paulino with the bases loaded and then permitted Tejada to connect for an opposite-field hit that dropped in front of right fielder Jason Heyward.
Atlanta had grabbed a 5-4 edge in the seventh on a double by Freddie Freeman, who entered the game on a double-switch.
Tim Byrdak (2-0) gave up that hit, but earned the win when the Mets scored twice to regain the lead in the eighth. Manny Acosta earned his second save.
