Rockies 3, Marlins 1
Jason Hammel outdueled Javier Vazquez and Troy Tulowitzki had an RBI single as the visiting Colorado Rockies got the better of the Florida Marlins 3-1 on Saturday.
Ty Wigginton and Hammel also drove in runs for the Rockies, who became the first team to reach 14 victories this season.
Hammel (2-1) worked 6 2/3 innings and surrendered one run, seven hits, walked one and struck out four. The righthander ran into some trouble in the third inning when he allowed a leadoff double to John Buck and a single to Emilio Bonifacio. After a sacrifice bunt, Chris Coghlan's sacrifice fly made it 1-1.
Colorado jumped back on top in the sixth when it got to Vazquez for a pair of runs. Todd Helton and Seth Smith hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning, and Wigginton pushed across the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Hammel squeezed Smith home to make it 3-1.
Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his seventh save.
Vazquez (1-2) allowed three runs, four hits, walked five and struck out five in six innings. The outing marked the first quality start in four turns for Vazquez, who returned to the National League after struggling with the New York Yankees in 2010.
