Marlins 6, Rockies 3
Mike Stanton belted a three-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Florida Marlins to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
Josh Johnson pitched seven strong innings and Omar Infante added a three-run triple for the Marlins.
After the Rockies tied the game in the top of the eighth, Florida put two on against Matt Belisle (2-1) before Stanton came up and blasted a 1-0 offering into the seats for his second homer of the season.
Mike Dunn (1-0) was credited with the win and Leo Nunez earned his sixth save of the campaign.
For the fourth time this season, Johnson took a no hitter through at least five innings, losing his bid for history when Dexter Fowler – who broke up Anibal Sanchez’s no-hit try in the ninth inning on Friday – doubled to center with two outs in the sixth.
Johnson finished with six strikeouts while walking three.
Ubaldo Jimenez matched his counterpart through the first four innings but had his command abandon him in the fifth when he walked the bases loaded. Jimenez retired the next two batters but could not get out of the jam, allowing Infante’s triple for Florida’s first hit.
Colorado got to the Marlins’ bullpen in the eighth, pushing two runs across on Carlos Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Troy Tulowitzki off Clay Hensley to knot it at 3-3.
