Athletics 1, Marlins 0
Gio Gonzalez allowed one hit and struck out nine in eight dominant innings, and Kurt Suzuki drove in the lone run with a sacrifice fly as the host Oakland Athletics beat the floundering Florida Marlins 1-0 on Tuesday.
After waiting out a 1:23 rain delay, Gonzalez (7-5) pitched the Athletics to their sixth straight home win, which matches their longest home winning streak from each of the last two seasons. Gonzalez allowed a leadoff single to Emilio Bonafacio and walked three.
Andrew Bailey struck out the side after the tying run reached second base on an error. It was his sixth save in seven chances. Bailey ended the game by striking out Hanley Ramirez, who continued his career-worst start with an 0-for-4 effort. Ramirez is hitting .214.
The Marlins fell to 3-23 in June and 2-5 under 80-year-old interim manager Jack McKeon.
The Marlins lost despite a second straight solid outing from Javier Vazquez (4-8), who allowed one run and three hits in seven innings.
Gonzalez has recorded 27 strikeouts and six walks in his last three starts.
