Marlins 6, Astros 3
Hanley Ramirez had three hits and three RBIs, and Javier Vazquez threw seven solid innings as the Florida Marlins moved above .500 under interim manager Jack McKeon with a 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night.
Ramirez has hit .400 (24-for-60) over his past 16 games since his average dropped to .200 on June 20, the day McKeon took the helm. Ramirez has four home runs and 18 RBIs during that span - he had four homers and 17 RBIs in his first 55 games.
Vazquez (5-8) has not allowed more than two runs in any of his past five starts. He has won his last four starts against the Astros dating to 2009.
After losing 17 of their last 18 games under Edwin Rodriguez, the Marlins improved to 9-8 under McKeon. They have won three straight for the first time since sweeping a three-game series at San Francisco from May 24-26.
The Astros, who have lost eight of nine, dropped to a major league-worst 30-60.
Houston starter Jordan Lyles (0-4) was again denied his first major league win. He allowed five runs over six innings. The Astros have lost seven of Lyles' eight starts.
