Giants 5, Marlins 2

Brandon Belt hit a pair of home runs in his first game since being recalled from the minors, and Cody Ross and Nate Schierholtz also homered in support of Ryan Vogelsong, as the San Francisco Giants beat the Florida Marlins 5-2 on Sunday.

The Giants snapped a four-series losing streak by taking two of three at Sun Life Stadium.

Ross hit a two-run blast in the third for a 2-1 San Francisco lead. It was the Giants' first multi-run homer since Schierholtz hit a two-run shot July 6. Their previous 21 home runs were solo shots, breaking the previous major league record of 19 set by the 1914 Philadelphia Phillies.

Schierholtz added a solo homer in the fourth, and Belt hit solo blasts in the sixth and eighth. He had hit only two home runs in 31 previous major league games.

Vogelsong (10-2) continued his surprising season, allowing two runs (one earned) over 7 2/3 innings. Vogelsong has won seven of his last eight decisions.

The Marlins got the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Ramon Ramirez struck out Brett Hayes for the final out and his second save.

Marlins right-hander Chris Volstad (5-9) gave up four runs — including three of the homers — over six innings in his first start since being recalled from the minors.

The Marlins finished their 10-game homestand with only one win, a 2-1 victory in the series opener Friday. They scored only 25 runs in the homestand.

Mike Stanton hit his team-leading 26th homer in the first inning for Florida, and Emilio Bonifacio added an RBI double in the eighth.
