Marlins 6, Rockies 5
Anibal Sanchez pitched eight strong innings to win his first game since June 10 and Mike Stanton homered for the third consecutive day as the Florida Marlins edged the host Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Tuesday.
Sanchez (7-6) allowed three solo homers in the first four innings, but blanked the Rockies over the next four. He gave up five hits and struck out seven to defeat Colorado for the second time this season.
Jason Giambi hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth off Leo Nunez before the Marlins’ closer recorded his 33rd save.
Bryan Petersen had two triples, a single and an RBI for the Marlins, who have won nine of their last 12 road games. Emilio Bonifacio and Greg Dobbs added two hits and an RBI.
Stanton’s homer in the seventh - estimated at 433 feet - was his 28th on the season and 50th of his career.
The Marlins sent nine men to the plate in the first and forced Rockies’ starter Jhoulys Chacin (9-10) to throw 41 pitches. They scored three times, highlighted by Mike Cameron’s two-run single.
Chacin allowed five runs over four innings and is 1-6 in his last seven decisions.
Seth Smith, Troy Tulowitzki (two hits) and Carlos Gonzalez (two hits) belted solo home runs off Sanchez.
