Mets 5, Giants 2
Scott Hairston belted a pinch-hit homer against closer Brian Wilson to lead off the ninth inning as the visiting New York Mets recorded a 5-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday.
Angel Pagan blasted a two-run homer, and Carlos Beltran and Daniel Murphy collected three hits apiece for New York, which won for the fifth time in six games.
Pedro Beato (2-1) picked up the win after tossing one pitch and inducing a double play to end the eighth. Francisco Rodriguez retired the side in order in the ninth for his 23rd save of the season.
With the game tied at 2-2, Hairston deposited an offering from Wilson (6-2) over the left field wall for his second pinch-hit homer - and fourth overall - of the season. Beltran and Nick Evans added insurance runs with RBI singles.
Nate Schierholtz belted his third homer in as many days and drove in two for National League West-leading San Francisco, which saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end.
Pablo Sandoval extended his career-best hitting streak to 19 games with a leadoff double in the fourth. He came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Schierholtz.
