Nate Schierholtz collected four hits - including an RBI single in the third inning - and Matt Cain tossed six solid frames as the San Francisco Giants recorded a 4-2 home victory over the New York Mets on Sunday.

Pablo Sandoval extended his career-high hitting streak to 21 games with an RBI double as National League West-leading San Francisco won for the fourth time in five contests.

Miguel Tejada and Aaron Rowand provided insurance with RBI singles in the seventh inning.

Cain (8-5) recorded his fifth victory in six outings after allowing five hits and striking out four. Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo bridged the gap to All-Star closer Brian Wilson, who secured his 26th save of the season.

Justin Turner collected four hits - including an RBI double - and Nick Evans belted his first homer of the season for New York, which suffered its second straight loss.

Mike Pelfrey (5-8) dropped his third decision in four outings after permitting two runs and eight hits in six innings.
