Mets 4, Cardinals 2

Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran returned to the lineup and sparked New York to a 4-2 home win over St. Louis on Tuesday night.

Reyes, who leads the majors with a .355 average, ignited a fifth-inning rally with a leadoff single and finished 2-for-5. Angel Pagan’s double drove in two to make it 2-1 Mets. Beltran went 3-for-3 with two walks as the Mets banged out 14 hits.

The All-Stars’ return gave a much-needed lift to New York, which had dropped five of six.

Pitcher Kyle Lohse’s fifth-inning single put St. Louis on top after Dillon Gee (9-3) held the Cards hitless through four. Jason Isringhausen earned his first save.

Lohse (8-7) has dropped five of six decisions after a hot start. St. Louis’ Lance Berkman hit his NL-leading 26th homer.

Reyes had been out since July 2 with a strained hamstring, while Beltran had missed three games with the flu.
