Nationals 3, Mets 0
Jayson Werth belted a three-run homer and Yunesky Maya collected his first career major-league victory in a spot start as the Washington Nationals snapped a six-game losing skid with a 3-0 triumph over the visiting New York Mets on Saturday.
With the Nationals celebrating "Jayson Werth Bobblehead Night", the high-priced offseason acquisition deposited an offering from R.A. Dickey (5-9) into the center field seats in the first inning. The homer was Werth's 12th of the season and second since June 17.
Maya (1-1) was pressed into service after scheduled starter Jason Marquis was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier Saturday. Maya allowed five hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings.
Ross Detwiler and Tyler Clippard bridged the gap to Drew Storen, who worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning for his 26th save of the season.
David Wright collected his seventh straight multiple-hit contest for New York, which saw its five-game winning streak come to an end.
Dickey permitted three runs on six hits in six innings to take the loss.
