Nationals 3, Mets 2

Ian Desmond's chopper caromed off pitcher Bobby Parnell's glove to plate Rick Ankiel with the winning run in the ninth inning as the Washington Nationals took two of three from the New York Mets with a 3-2 home triumph on Sunday.

Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse belted back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth inning for Washington, which collected its second win in a row and fourth in 15 games.

Scott Hairston belted a pair of homers - including a tying shot with two outs in the ninth inning. His homer in the seventh snapped New York's 18-inning scoreless drought, but the Mets have lost two in a row after winning five straight contests.

After putting runners on second and third following a wild pitch in the ninth, Parnell's offering to Desmond was returned to sender. Parnell (3-3) extended his 6-foot-4 frame, but couldn't come down with the ball as Ankiel came in with the winning run. Parnell took the loss after allowing one run on two hits in one-third of an inning.

Drew Storen (6-2) was credited with the win after allowing Hairston's second home run.
