Diamondbacks 4, Mets 3

Ian Kennedy won his seventh straight start and Justin Upton homered as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the visiting New York Mets 4-3 on Friday.

Kennedy (15-3) moved into a tie with the Phillies' Roy Halladay for the National League lead in wins after holding the Mets to one run on six hits over seven innings. He is the fourth Diamondbacks pitcher to win at least seven consecutive starts.

J.J. Putz allowed one run in the ninth before recording his 28th save.

Arizona, which has won four straight, moved two games ahead of San Francisco in the National League West. New York has lost nine of its last 12 games.

Upton hit his 24th home run with two outs in the first off Dillon Gee (10-4), who gave up four runs in five innings. After Cody Ransom doubled home two runs in the second, Kennedy drove in Ransom with his second career double.

Arizona first baseman Xavier Nady fractured his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in the second and was replaced by rookie Paul Goldschmidt.
