Cubs 10, Mets 6 (11)
Carlos Pena's RBI single drove in the go-ahead run in a six-run 11th inning as the Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets 10-6 on an emotional Sunday night at Citi Field.
The Mets held a stirring pregame ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A 100-by-300 foot flag was unfurled and the stadium's lights were dimmed as fans held electronic candles.
The ceremony included relatives of victims killed in the attacks, first responders and players from the Mets' team that season. John Franco, a New York City native, threw out the first pitch to Mike Piazza, who hit a memorable home run at Shea Stadium on Sept. 21 - the first game played in the city following the attacks.
Pena's single off Josh Stinson (0-1) scored Marlon Byrd, who started the 11th with a single. Alfonso Soriano and Darwin Barney added two-run doubles while Geovany Soto hit a sacrifice fly.
Jason Pridie hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
The Cubs led 4-3 going into the eighth, but the Mets tied the game on pitcher Jeff Samardzija's throwing error.
