Phillies 1, Athletics 0
Ben Francisco's single in the ninth inning lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to their eighth straight home win, a 1-0 decision over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
Francisco's chopper over the head of third baseman Scott Sizemore brought home Shane Victorino, who opened the inning with a walk before advancing on Domonic Brown's single. Both men moved up on Brian Schneider's groundout, setting the stage for Francisco's heroics in a game featuring only five hits between the two teams.
Michael Stutes (3-0) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third victory in six days. Brian Fuentes (1-8) absorbed the loss, his first since May 23.
Neither team had a hit through the first five innings. Oakland veteran Hideki Matsui's double in the sixth ended Vance Worley's no-hit bid, while Placido Polanco returned the favor for Philadelphia with a single to center field off Athletics starter Guillermo Moscoso in the bottom half.
Moscoso allowed two hits in seven innings as the Athletics have dropped three in a row since they won a season-high six games.
Worley limited Oakland to one hit over six innings, walked four and struck out four. He has allowed only one earned run in his last two outings, a span of 11 innings.
