Trevor Cahill pitched seven-plus solid innings and Scott Sizemore snapped a tie with an RBI single in the fourth as the visiting Oakland Athletics recorded a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
Cole Hamels (9-4) yielded two runs for the second consecutive outing and was denied in his second attempt for his 10th victory of the season. He allowed eight hits as the Phillies had their eight-game home winning streak snapped.
Cahill (8-5) posted his second straight impressive outing after a five-game losing skid. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out six in 7 2/3 innings.
Adam Rosales belted his second homer of the season and Mark Ellis provided insurance with an RBI single in the ninth for Oakland, which snapped a three-game skid following a season-high six-game winning streak.
With his team nursing a one-run lead and runners on the corners in the eighth inning, Andrew Bailey replaced Cahill and induced Chase Utley to ground out to end the threat. Bailey also worked the ninth for his fifth save.
