Ryan Howard went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, Hunter Pence drove in a run in his Philadelphia debut and the Phillies beat the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4 on Saturday night.
Jimmy Rollins homered for the second time in as many games for the major league-leading Phillies, who have won 13 of the last 15 meetings with Pittsburgh at home.
Cliff Lee (10-7) allowed four runs, eight hits and struck out 11 in 7 2/3 innings for his first win since June 28. Lee left after RBI singles by Neil Walker and Brandon Wood cut the lead to 6-4. Antonio Bastardo struck out Pedro Alvarez, who homered in the fourth, to end the threat.
Pence, a two-time All-Star who was acquired from Houston on Friday to provide protection for Howard, added an insurance RBI single after the slugger drew an intentional walk in the eighth. He finished 1-for-5.
Ryan Madson struck out the side in the ninth for his 18th save in 19 chances.
James McDonald (7-5) allowed five runs and 10 hits in five innings en route to his first loss since June 5.
