Phillies 9, Dodgers 8

Chase Utley hit a game-tying, two-run single in the sixth inning and Ryan Howard followed with a two-run homer as the Philadelphia Phillies completed the best 10-game road trip in franchise history Wednesday afternoon with a 9-8 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers.

Hunter Pence also belted a two-run homer for Philadelphia, which overcame an early 6-0 deficit to post its 12th win in 13 games overall and conclude a 9-1 road trip.

The three-game sweep was the Phillies' first in Los Angeles since June 1995.

Juan Rivera highlighted a five-run first inning for Los Angeles with a three-run blast off Vance Worley, who had won six straight decisions and entered with a 1.79 ERA over his previous nine starts.

Dioner Navarro expanded the Dodgers' advantage with an RBI double later in the first and a sacrifice fly two frames later.

Philadelphia rallied for three runs in the fourth and added two more in the fifth before moving ahead in the sixth. Utley singled off Blake Hawksworth (2-3) to knot the game 7-7 and Howard drove a 2-1 pitch to the opposite field for his 25th shot of the year.

Kyle Kendrick (7-5) notched the win despite allowing a run in one inning and Ryan Madson yielded one in the ninth before recording his 22nd save in 23 opportunities.

Rivera drove in four runs and Matt Kemp collected four hits for Los Angeles, which has lost four in a row.
