Brewers 3. Phillies 2
Yovani Gallardo struck out a season-high 12 over seven innings and Ryan Braun singled in the go-ahead run as the Milwaukee Brewers avoided a four-game sweep with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Nyjer Morgan doubled in the tying run for the Brewers, who snapped a five-game skid and remained six games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central with 14 left.
The Brewers' offense has been held to an average of two runs over the last six games by the Cardinals and Phillies but was finally given a pitching performance to overcome that from Gallardo (16-10). The righthander went a span of 15 straight batters between the second and fifth without allowing a hit and yielded only three on the day.
Milwaukee took the lead in the seventh, when Corey Hart and Morgan reached Vance Worley (11-2) for back-to-back two-out doubles and Braun followed with the go-ahead single.
Worley absorbed his first loss since May 29.
John Axford worked the ninth for his 42nd save.
