Royals 7, Mariners 0

Not even the reigning Cy Young winner could slow down Kansas City. The Royals pounded Felix Hernandez (1-2) for five runs - two earned - and six hits in five innings and beat the Mariners 7-0 at Kauffman Stadium Saturday.

Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 with three runs and Mike Aviles had two hits and three RBIs for Kansas City (10-4), which has won six of seven and goes for a four-game sweep Sunday.

Sean O’Sullivan (1-1), making his first start of the season, pitched five scoreless innings for the win. He allowed five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Three relievers combined to complete the seven-hitter, the club's first shutout since Oct. 1 against Tampa Bay.

Gordon smoked a two-run double in a three-run fifth, then scored on Billy Butler’s single. An error by Seattle third baseman Chone Figgins contributed to the big inning.

Figgins also went 0-for-5 to lower his average to .154 as Seattle fell to 4-11.
