Royals 2, Rangers 1 (10)
Jeff Francoeur broke up a tie game in the 10th inning by delivering an RBI single to center to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 home victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
The victory snaps a five-game losing streak for Kansas City, which rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the ninth. The Royals scored a run for the second straight night off Rangers closer Neftali Feliz, as Mike Aviles brought in the game-tying run with an infield single.
In the 10th, Melky Cabrera had a one-out single and moved to third when Eric Hosmer followed with a base hit. That brought up Francoeur, who came through with the walk-off hit against his former team.
The Royals also got a stellar start from Luke Hochevar. Hochevar went a season-long 8 2/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
He didn’t get the victory, though. Greg Holland (1-0) earned it with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Texas starter Derek Holland went a season-long eight-plus innings, holding the Royals to one run on nine hits with a walk and five strikeouts. After giving up a leadoff single to Hosmer in the ninth, Holland exited the game.
Reliever Darren Oliver (1-5) took the loss.
