Rangers 7, Royals 6

Elvis Andrus singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning to rally the Texas Rangers to a wild 7-6 victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals on Sunday

Nelson Cruz hit a tying home run in the ninth – one of four hit by the Rangers – off Royals closer Joakim Soria (3-2) to help Texas rally from a 5-2 deficit.

Mike Napoli went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs and Ian Kinsler and Michael Young also went deep for the Rangers.

Napoli looked like he had no chance of scoring the winning run from first base on Andrus’ shot down the right-field line. The throw arrived well before he reached home plate, but he slid under catcher Brayan Pena’s tag.

Pena’s three-run homer capped a five-run fourth inning to give Kansas City a 5-2 lead.

Rangers reliever Arthur Rhodes (3-2) got the victory. Texas starter Alexi Ogando went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

The Rangers pulled to within 5-3 on Napoli’s homer and then tied it with a two-run shot by Young off Aaron Crow in the eighth.

The Royals regained a 6-5 lead when Chris Getz led off with a double and reached third on an error. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Alcides Escobar.
