Royals 4, Angels 2
Melky Cabrera had two hits - including a home run in the first inning - to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
The victory was just the Royals' third in their last nine games.
Cabrera came into the series batting .357 in his career at Angel Stadium. He homered to right field in his first at-bat.
The Royals pushed across a run in the fourth and two in the sixth off Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana (3-6), who yielded four runs in seven innings to take the loss. Los Angeles fell for the eighth time in nine games.
The Angels' offense showed life in the sixth inning against Kansas City starter Jeff Francis (3-6), pushing two runs across with one out. But Alex Gordon threw out Bobby Abreu at home and rookie Mark Trumbo popped out to end the threat.
Francis tossed 6 1/3 innings to earn the win and Joakim Soria pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his ninth save of the season.
Kansas City's Mike Moustakas finished 1-for-3 in his major-league debut. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 draft, Moustakas picked up his first-career hit on a broken bat single to right field in the sixth inning.
