Royals 9, Angels 0
Kansas City starter Vin Mazzaro tossed seven shutout innings Sunday to help the Royals to a 9-0 win over the host Los Angeles Angels.
Making just his second start since allowing 14 runs in 2 1/3 innings, Mazzaro (1-1) dropped his ERA nearly seven runs and picked up his first win since July 24, 2010. The veteran righthander scattered five hits while working around five walks to subdue the Angels, who have scored more than three runs just once in June.
The Royals lineup gave Mazzaro plenty of support, scoring a run in the second inning and four in the fourth inning against Los Angeles starter Tyler Chatwood (3-4), who yielded five runs in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Eight Royals batters recorded hits in the game, led by Alex Gordon, who finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs to help Kansas City improve to 7-3 against the Angels this season.
The Angels, who have now lost seven of their last eight, were without infielder Alberto Callaspo on Sunday. Callaspo left Saturday's game with a hamstring injury and could end up on the disabled list.
