Cardinals 5, Royals 4

Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied for a 5-4 victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals on Saturday to snap a seven-game losing streak.

With one out and Colby Rasmus on first after a leadoff single, Holliday drove a 0-1 pitch from Greg Holland (1-1) into the center-field seats for his eighth home run of the season. Fernando Salas set the Royals down in order in the ninth to save it for Jason Motte (3-1), who retired the final two hitters in the eighth.

Kansas City tied the game 3-3 on a solo homer by Matt Treanor in the fourth and went ahead in the seventh when Alex Gordon clubbed a solo shot to right against St. Louis starter Jake Westbrook.

Vin Mazzaro worked six innings for the Royals, and allowed three runs, seven hits and two walks. Westbrook gave up four runs on eight hits in seven innings.
