Rockies 9, Royals 0
Mark Ellis homered and drove in three runs in his Rockies debut, and rookie Juan Nicasio allowed three hits in eight innings as host Colorado shut out the Kansas City Royals 9-0 on Friday.
Ellis, who was acquired Thursday from Oakland to fill the Rockies' hole at second base, went 3-for-5 and scored two runs while batting second. His two-run blast in the fifth gave Colorado a 5-0 lead.
Nicasio (3-1) allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four in his longest start of the season.
Danny Duffy (1-3) gave up five runs on nine hits over six innings for the Royals, who lost their fourth straight game and 10th in their last 12.
Todd Helton went 4-for-5 including his 542nd double, which tied him for 26th on the career list with Harry Heilmann.
Charlie Blackmon capped the scoring with his first career home run in the eighth.
