Royals 16, Rockies 8
Melky Cabrera homered twice and drove in five runs as the Kansas City Royals snapped a five-game slide and posted a season high in runs while outslugging the Colorado Rockies 16-8 at Coors Field on Sunday.
Rookie Eric Hosmer added a home run and finished with four hits and four RBIs while Jeff Franceour plated three runs in a 21-hit attack for the Royals, who had scored 12 runs during their five-game slide.
Cabrera, who came up a triple shy of the cycle, got it started with a solo homer in the first and added a three-run blast in the third as Kansas City knocked around Jason Hammel (4-8). The Royals broke it wide open during a six-run sixth.
The Rockies briefly made it interesting thanks to Carlos Gonzalez, who doubled in three runs in the fifth and hit a three-run homer in the sixth. Gonzalez was forced out of the game in the seventh after slamming into the wall in center field while making a catch.
He was taken for X-rays on his wrist.
Blake Wood (4-0) got credit for the win in relief.
The Royals lost a player of their own when Alex Gordon left the game after getting hit by a pitch on the left knee.
