Athletics 7, Royals 0
Guillermo Moscoso took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as Oakland avoided a three-game home sweep with a 7-0 rout of Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon.
Moscoso (8-8) retired every hitter he faced until walking Alcides Escobar with two out in the sixth inning. The Royals, who had scored 18 runs in winning the first two games of the series, did not get their first hit until catcher Salvador Perez delivered a two-out single to right field in the eighth.
Moscoso was denied his first career complete game when third baseman Scott Sizemore committed a pair of errors on what would have been the final out. He finished with four strikeouts while yielding just two hits in his 8 2/3 innings. Fautino de los Santos needed just one pitch to end the game on a pop-up by Eric Hosmer.
Scott Sizemore's two-run double off Bruce Chen (10-7) in the fifth inning stretched the Oakland lead to 4-0, and the Athletics broke the game wide open with three more runs in the sixth.
Chen lasted 5 1/3 innings in defeat, giving up six runs, one of them unearned. He allowed eight hits and walked three while striking out two.
