Royals 4, Mariners 2
Felipe Paulino matched his career high with 11 strikeouts to pace the Kansas City Royals to a 4-2 win over the host Seattle Mariners on Saturday night.
Rookie Eric Hosmer capped a three-run first inning with a two-run homer and Jeff Francouer added a solo shot in the ninth as the Royals snapped a three-game losing streak.
Paulino (3-6) allowed two runs on two hits - both solo homers - in seven innings to win for only the second time since July 5.
Justin Smoak and Mike Carp went deep for the Mariners, who had their modest two-game winning streak halted.
Seattle rookie righthander Michael Pineda (9-10) lost his third consecutive start, allowing three runs on five hits in eight innings. He hasn't won since July 30.
Royals closer Joakim Soria pitched a perfect ninth for his 27th save, putting him within three of his third straight season with at least 30.
