Twins 4, Athletics 3 (10)
Trevor Plouffe's run-scoring sacrifice fly lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 victory in 10 innings over the host Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.
The win was just the second in the last 11 games for the Twins, who have struggled to score runs this season.
The teams were tied 3-3 in the top of the 10th inning when Minnesota pinch hitter Delmon Young singled to lead off the frame. Young later advanced to third on a throwing error by Daric Barton and scored on Plouffe's sacrifice fly. Plouffe provided the offense for the Twins, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Joe Nathan picked up the win for the Twins after pitching two-thirds of an inning of relief. Matt Capps pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn his seventh save of the season.
Oakland reliever Brian Fuentes was saddled with the loss.
Both starters pitched well in the contest. Oakland's Brandon McCarthy allowed three runs in seven innings and Minnesota's Carl Pavano also allowed three runs in seven innings.
