Twins 9, Giants 2
The streaking Minnesota Twins tied a major league record by starting the game with eight straight hits and they used an eight-run first inning to beat the host San Francisco Giants 9-2 on Tuesday.
Carl Pavano (5-5) gave up six hits over seven innings for the Twins, who have won eight straight and 15 of their last 17 games.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner (3-9) became the first major league pitcher to allow at least nine hits and fail to escape the first inning since Dan Wright of the White Sox on August 22, 2001.
Bumgarner, who posted a 2.03 ERA over his previous 10 starts, gave up eight earned runs on nine hits and saw his ERA jump from 3.21 to 4.06. The Giants lost their season-high fifth straight game.
Luke Hughes and Ben Revere knocked in two runs apiece for the Twins, who were coming off a three-game sweep of San Diego.
